New guitar cab has Altec ER-10s -- what do you know?

I have played through the 817H before, but I am unfamiliar with this speaker. Was it designed for musical instruments? How is it rated? Are they worth much?

Altec's competition for the EVM-10 by EV...worth about the same, maybe 60-70 each.

When do they date from OG? I've never seen one.

Here's the page from the 1984 catalogue.
    http://www.lansingheritage.org/image...pro/page09.jpg

Within a couple years Altec and EV were part of the same company, the Altec ER's were then discontinued and replaced by EV's labeled as Altecs.

The Altec is labeled ER-10,12 etc

The EV relabeled as Altec will be labeled ER12L, etc.

    Different speakers but often confused.

These are dated March of 1983. Thanks for your info, I haven't heard them yet but I'll report back.

It might well behoove we musical types to start accumulating 417s I think. Vastly underrated speaker by the thump and bump crowd. Ev's to my ears are darker. Nice, but no cut for the rhythm guy. When the overrated overpriced Celestion mystique fades, if ever, clean will be back. Let the amp do the dirty work, and besides, pushed hard enough, a 417 either alnico or ceramic will yeald musical distortion. I think the Celestion bit is as much about hiding sloppy playing as anything. Opinion again. No Altec or JBL will let you get away with much. But look at the price of D-120s. Holy Cow. 417s are a bargain.
